US DOJ Launches Criminal Investigation Against J&J

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced they will be launching a criminal investigation into whether Johnson & Johnson lied about the safety of their talc products. 

Criminal Investigation to Begin

According to an article from Insurance Journal, Johnson & Johnson announced in February of 2019 that they had received subpoenas but did not say in regards to what. The investigation is being conducted by a grand jury in Washington that are going over the evidence. 

J&J In Hot Water

The company found themselves in the middle of controversy when internal company memos from the 1960’s and 1970’s were used as evidence in some of the multiple lawsuits the company has, that demonstrate scientists knew of asbestos in their talc presenting a “severe health hazard.” 

Other Lawsuits

Investors in the company are also upset, bringing lawsuits claiming that the company has defrauded them by not disclosing the risk that comes with using their talc products. In addition to these lawsuits, Johnson & Johnson face over 14,000 civil claims regarding the safety of their talc products.
