Airbag manufacturer Takata has recently discovered another issue with their already problematic airbags, prompting another recall impacting 1.4 million vehicles.
The newest issue with the airbags also involves existing issues with the airbags, where they are prone to exploding causing metal pieces and other parts of the airbag to hit and potentially seriously injure or kill the driver.
According to an article by CNN Business, 41.6 million vehicles have already been recalled due to the problems with the airbags.
The Takata airbag recall is already known to be the largest recall in automobile history.
Many makes of cars have been affected by the recall, including Ford, Honda, and even luxury car brand Ferrari.
The recalls also forced the company to file for bankruptcy as a result in 2017. The recall has also had an impact globally, with the Australian government reporting that at least 29 deaths have occurred as a result of Takata airbags.

Colorado drivers might want to slow down and fasten their seat belts. An annual report done by Car Insurance Comparison has ranked Colorado as the 6th worst state in the nation for drivers.
Colorado Drivers Going Backwards
An article by ABC Denver 7 News on the study reports that Colorado had previously ranked 15th worst in 2017 and 2018. However this year, “Colorado dropped, got worse, in every category since last year’s study,” as commented by spokesman Nelson Garcia for the company.
This is the first year Colorado has seen the top ten since the report began coming out in 2011. Car Insurance Comparison uses thousands of data points from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in building their report.
The company uses five key factors to determine where states rank for bad driving. The factors are fatality rate (for every 100 miles traveled), failure to obey traffic laws, careless driving, drunk driving, and speeding.
Colorado’s ranking is due to the state receiving the 3rd worst ranking for failure to obey traffic laws, especially speeding. The report also mentions Colorado being ranked 25th worst for drunk driving which is its “best” ranking.

Fall is upon us (and soon officially Winter) in Colorado, bringing all the snow and cold weather with it. During these months, getting around the state can be tricky. Drivers have to adapt to changing conditions on the roads, and budget more time for getting around. Even walking around can present its own set of challenges, especially the possibility of a slip and fall. Whether it’s trudging through snow or watching out for that patch of ice on the ground, it’s important to have some tips in mind when you are out and about on foot this time of year.
Take it Slow – Be sure to slow down and make sure you are paying attention to where you are placing your steps.
Wear Appropriate Shoes – Wear shoes that have good traction or that are slip resistant to help keep you upright.
Keep Your Hands Free – Try to keep items out of your hands as it can impede your balance and your ability to catch yourself.
Take the Easy Way – Try to take the flattest route possible, and avoid curbs that can be built up with snow and ice on them, making them slippery.
Car Support– Be cautious when getting in and out of your vehicle and use it for balance or extra support if you need to.
Be Aware Indoors – Ice and snow are magnets for creating wet floors indoors. Be sure to look out for wet floor signs and walk slowly to help keep your footing.

A special report by Reuters documents how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) appears to have downplayed the seriousness of asbestos in talc products over the wishes of companies like Johnson & Johnson.
FDA Sitting Back on Talc
The report goes back to the 1970’s where the issue of asbestos in talc products first came to light. According to the article, the FDA found a sample of talc in Johnson & Johnson’s popular Shower to Shower product. However the FDA did not investigate further after Johnson & Johnson told the agency that the product was safe and their own testing showed no evidence of asbestos.
The FDA also had plans to set regulations on asbestos in talc and other cosmetic products, yet chose not to go forward after Johnson & Johnson and other talc companies banded together to propose that the companies could self regulate their products.
Legal Cases Put on the Pressure
However now that companies like Johnson & Johnson are being sued by thousands of plaintiffs over the safety of their talc, the FDA is feeling the heat to step up as well. According to the article “FDA cosmetics chief Linda Katz began organizing the November 2018 symposium and a public hearing on talc testing, now planned for next year.” The organization however once again looked to J&J for guidance, which recommended talc experts who have testified in defense of J&J in legal proceedings.

A bus crash on I-25 near Walsenburg, Colorado on Thursday November 28, 2019 left multiple people with serious injuries according to KFox 14 News.
Dangerous Conditions a Factor in Bus Crash
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. and according to the article, the accident occurred while the interstate was experiencing icy and slick conditions. The driver of the bus at the time of the crash, Alberto Torres, was ticketed by the police for careless driving causing bodily injury after he lost control of the vehicle which slid off the road as a result.
49 people including Mr. Torres were involved in the accident, with at least 6 people suffering critical injuries. The crash involves an El Paso based autobus company, Los Paisanos, which is where the bus began its journey with its intended destination being Denver, Colorado.
Unfortunately this is not the first time Los Paisanos has had a serious bus crash. According to the article, most recently in 2008 the company had an incident involving a flipped vehicle which cost the lives of two individuals and injured many others.
Colorado State Police (CSP) have launched an investigation into the crash that is still ongoing at this time.

US government officials have launched a criminal investigation into whether pharmaceutical companies intentionally allowed painkillers to flood communities, and contribute to the opioid epidemic.
Controlled Substances Act
According to an article from Markets Insider, investigators are looking into whether companies such as Teva are in violation of the Controlled Substances Act. The law requires companies to track certain drugs and report any suspicious orders or activity to authorities.
Opioid Legal Issues
Other pharmaceutical companies are already feeling the legal heat over the opioid epidemic. The Sackler family who is behind powerful pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma, known for the painkiller Oxycontin has filed for bankruptcy. Several states have also sued the company claiming aggressive marketing tactics to push the drugs to doctors and other medical providers has also influenced the severity of the epidemic.

A report by the Wall Street Journal claims that Johnson & Johnson may have rushed the testing of their talcum powder, in order to say that their talc does not contain asbestos.
FDA Finds Sample Positive for Asbestos in Talcum Powder
This news comes on the heels of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) testing a sample of Johnson & Johnson baby powder ordered online, and finding traces of asbestos in the product. As a result, many big name retail stores such as CVS, Walgreen’s, and others have pulled the item from shelves.
To further complicate matters, an expert witness used many times by Johnson & Johnson to promote the safety of their talc, was found to be the head of a laboratory that confirmed the positive sample from the FDA.
The lab who processed the results is pointing the finger at Johnson & Johnson, saying it was under pressure from the company to rush the results of the testing. J&J is currently under fire from thousands of plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits against the company, claiming that Johnson & Johnson knew that their talcum powder was not safe and yet continued to market the product anyway. Many individuals are now claiming that their diagnosis of mesothelioma and/or ovarian cancer from those who are women, is a result of their use of J&J talcum powder.

A Reuters report that has been released that shows JUUL ignored evidence that their product was highly addictive to teens.
JUUL Knew From the Beginning
According to the report, the company spent months creating a new formula that would allow users to be hooked on the product from the first use. Ideas were even proposed to have the device shut off or be disabled after so many uses for a certain period of time, to limit nicotine intake. However, JUUL never decided to use the feature in the final product design.
Marketing to Teens
While the company claims in written responses to questions from Reuters reporters, that they did not intend their marketing to target teens, their marketing tactics tell a different story. Many of their older advertisements featured younger looking models, and only after controversy and criticism around teens vaping did the company start to move to feature older people promoting their products.
Harmful to Teenagers
While cigarettes are blamed for having toxic chemicals other than nicotine, vaping is now bringing nicotine under a major spotlight. Scientists are focusing on how nicotine impacts brain development on young teenagers. According to the article, research that has been done shows how nicotine can interfere with brain development in young people, reworking the brain to focus on getting another hit of nicotine vs developing impulse control and other pathways that are crucial to proper brain development.
