Zantac’s Link to Serious Forms of Cancer

Zantac – which uses the active ingredient ranitidine – has been linked to an increased risk of severe cancers, even when taken minimally and to the manufacturer’s instructions. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Zantac and other ranitidine products used for heartburn control would be recalled due to their connection to NDMA, which is a probable human carcinogen. Now, Zantac users are confronting Sanofi, the drug’s most recent and primary manufacturer, with lawsuits.

Did you take Zantac regularly for heartburn or indigestion? Have you sense been diagnosed with a serious form of cancer, especially ones related to your gastrointestinal tract?

It is time to call (303) 327-9988 and speak with the Denver Zantac cancer lawyers of Boesen Law. With us leading the way, you might be able to sue Sanofi for significant compensation!

Zantac’s Link to NDMA

An independent pharmaceutical laboratory called Valisure conducted its own research into ranitidine, the key ingredient in Zantac. It discovered that a ranitidine molecule is extremely unstable. When ingested, it is destroyed easily by the digestive tract. This molecular breakdown is what caused NDMA to form inside the body.

After releasing its study to the public in 2019, Valisure also asked the FDA to recall Zantac and any other ranitidine-based drugs. A second laboratory, Emery Pharma, filed a similar complaint to the FDA a year later. Emery’s research suggested that ranitidine molecules could break down and form NDMA just from being left in the sun or any other area with a higher-than-normal room temperature.

Cancer Caused by Zantac

NDMA is a probable human carcinogen according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Worldwide Cancer Research. As such, it is believed to cause cancer in humans, but further research is required to 100% establish a direct connection using scientific methodology. However, product makers know to take reasonable steps to avoid any material, chemical, or substance in their products and drugs that have been marked as a “probable” carcinogen by such prestigious groups.

People who take Zantac often might have a higher risk of developing these cancers:

  • Bladder cancer
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Gastric cancer
  • Intestinal cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Prostate cancer
