Since the merger between Bayer AG and Monsanto Corp. Bayer AG has seen an increase in lawsuits filed against them over products like Roundup and Ranger Pro.
How many lawsuits are there currently?
According to an article by Fortune, over 11,000 people have filed lawsuits against the company. At the end of 2018, Bayer AG noted they knew of 9,300 plaintiffs – the change is over a 20% increase in just over three months.
What is the reason behind the increase?
The company has not issued a response over the increase in filings, however, seven other Roundup cases are set to be heard this year. Furthermore, the courts have ruled in favor of the plaintiffs before (read about Dewayne Johnson’s landmark verdict ruling here), possibly giving people an incentive to file a lawsuit when they may have been hesitant to do so before.
