[:en]A New York state judge issued a ruling allowing for a case brought by the New York Attorney General against the Sackler family to go forward according to an article by the LA Times.
New York is just one of the latest states to file suit against the Sackler family claiming that their aggressive marketing tactics helped create the massive opioid problem currently sweeping the nation.
The Sackler family, which owns Purdue Pharma, the pharmaceutical company behind popular prescription painkiller OxyContin have denied the claims.
Purdue Pharma recently settled a case with the state of Oklahoma, agreeing to pay $270 in settlement money to help combat the effects of the crisis. Massachusetts and New Jersey have also filed lawsuits over this matter.
It remains to be seen if other states will follow suit, however if verdicts or settlements look promising there could be an announcement of more lawsuits to come by other attorney general’s.
