Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has filed an expanded lawsuit against Purdue Pharma Denver’s ABC Channel 7 reported yesterday July 1, 2019.

Due to a confidentiality agreement with Denver District Court, the details of the updated lawsuit are currently unknown at this time. However the attorney general’s office has asked the court to unseal the records due to a public issue they say is greater than any claims Purdue Pharma has regarding privacy. The original lawsuit was filed by former Attorney General Cynthia Coffman last year.
Colorado Opioid Crisis
According to the article, data from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment show that 4500 Coloradoans died from an opioid overdose between the years of 2000 and 2018. Wesier commented that the updated lawsuit reflects claims that Purdue Pharma actively pushed data that was misleading, and aggressively pursued medical professionals to prescribe their developed drug known as OxyContin. Furthermore, the suit claims that the company had a list of Colorado medical providers who were known to often write prescriptions for opioids like OxyContin. They then pushed those providers to write even more prescriptions.
Purdue Pharma Fights Back
A spokesman for the company stated that the company denies these claims and referenced the recent dismissal of a North Dakota lawsuit as possible proof the Colorado lawsuit will have the same fate.
