Firework Safety Tips: Avoiding Firework Injuries
Independence Day is almost here, and people are gearing up to celebrate—whether it’s firing up the grill for a cookout, attending a parade, or spending quality time with family and friends. Another highlight of the holiday, just like when celebrating the New Year, is the love of fireworks. While fireworks create stunning and colorful displays, it’s essential to practice safe handling to prevent accidents and ensure a fun, injury-free celebration.
Keep Children and Yourself at a Safe Distance
Kids can get excited by the noise and colors that fireworks produce and may want to be as close as possible to the fireworks. However there is a possibility for burns and/or other injuries by being too close to a firework. Make sure there is enough distance between you and the fireworks.
Do Not Touch Fireworks that Do Not Go Off
Once in a while, you may get what is known as a “dud” where even when the firework is lit, it does not do anything. If this happens, do not pick up the firework. There is a possibility that the firework could still go off, and severely injure you or others in the process.
Do Not Hold Fireworks that are Lit
Just like with the tip above it is extremely dangerous to hold fireworks that are lit. There is an extreme risk of bodily injury and/or harm to you or others around you. When lighting fireworks, light them quickly and then move away to a safe distance.
