Report Ranks CO as 6th Worst State in the Nation for Drivers
Colorado drivers might want to slow down and fasten their seat belts. An annual report done by Car Insurance Comparison has ranked Colorado as the 6th worst state in the nation for drivers.
Colorado Drivers Going Backwards
An article by ABC Denver 7 News on the study reports that Colorado had previously ranked 15th worst in 2017 and 2018. However this year, “Colorado dropped, got worse, in every category since last year’s study,” as commented by spokesman Nelson Garcia for the company.
This is the first year Colorado has seen the top ten since the report began coming out in 2011. Car Insurance Comparison uses thousands of data points from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in building their report.
Key Factors
The company uses five key factors to determine where states rank for bad driving. The factors are fatality rate (for every 100 miles traveled), failure to obey traffic laws, careless driving, drunk driving, and speeding.
Colorado’s ranking is due to the state receiving the 3rd worst ranking for failure to obey traffic laws, especially speeding. The report also mentions Colorado being ranked 25th worst for drunk driving which is its “best” ranking.
