Deaths as a result of traffic accidents are on the rise in Denver CBS4 News reports. According to city officials, the City of Denver has already outpaced last year’s total of 61, as the new total is 64.
Dangers on Denver Roads
All in all, 235 people have lost their lives as a result of traffic incidents since 2016. The Denver Police Department has a program currently in place, Vision Zero Action Plan, to help lower traffic fatalities.
Vision Zero
The Vision Zero plan focuses on asking drivers to slow down, wear seat belts, and not engage in distracted driving habits such as talking on a cell phone or texting. The program’s overall goal is to have zero traffic-related deaths by the year 2030. The city has already taken some steps by lowering the speed limit on certain roads, to help keep drivers and others safe. Those who choose to get around the city by bike will find that there are more protected bikeways as well.
